New
Year’s Day Tradition of Making Yearly Predictions

Humanity’s
fascination with predictions and glimpses into that unknown
realm we call tomorrow has been part of our make up from the
beginning. Early man did not have too hard of time to realize
that there were “good” days and there were also “bad” days.
Of course they didn’t have modern day worries that we have
today such as: “Will I get that loan I applied for?”, “Will
that special person notice me at work today?”, or even “Will
my car make it to work tomorrow?” They were concerned with
such issues as: weather conditions for crops and water supply,
adequate food supplies, bearing healthy children, and their
own personal health.
Certainly some Native American tribes bringing down a buffalo
would consider that to be a “good” day, as well as a direct
blessing from the Creator. Watching your crops wither away
and it doesn’t rain again that day would be a “bad” day and
was considered to be punishment for some type of transgression
against the Creator.
With such labeling as good or bad we experience conflict when
we project our thoughts into tomorrow and what it may or may
not bring. This is, by the way, essentially where Eastern
Philosophies such as Taoism address the origin of human suffering.
This is good or that is bad is to be perceived as this is.
Never the less, due to this conflict of expectation, some
form of pain or anxiety arises. And to relieve this pain (or
worry), there were always individuals sought out that had
an “extra” ability that could interact with the invisible
psychic and/or spiritual world where time and space have no
boundaries to provide insight and guidance.
In those times the people were known as shamans, today those
“inner time-trippers” are referred to as psychics, intuitives,
or mediums. The role that these special people have played
in our culture over the years has changed. The shaman was
an integral icon in the everyday life of the tribe and was
consulted on virtually every issue that was confronted. Today,
the psychic has been more or less relegated to society’s “fringe”.
Be that as it may, complete with a few raised eyebrows, the
want and need for psychic inquiry remains.
Wherever the modern day intuitive consultant is stationed
on the social ladder, the questions put forth are essentially
the same, “What does the future bring?”, “Will it be good
or bad?” And like the shamans of the past the present day
psychic dips into that same endless source that houses the
“records of everything.” Also known as the Akashic records.
It is from this infinite cosmic library that information is
conveyed in varieties of expression through symbols, colors,
subjective feelings, spiritual guides, words, and images to
the psychic consultant.
New Years’ festivities were practiced as far back as 4,000
B.C. with the changing of the seasons and the planting and
harvesting of crops as the points of reference. They were
not, however, practiced in North America until about 400 years
ago. The tradition of making predictions at the New Year originates
from Germany where New Year’s Day was considered one of the
four “Oracle Days”, also known as Lostage, with the other
days being Christmas, Twelfth Night, and Midsummer’s Day.
The following are a few predictions for 2004 that are some
of my own. Enjoy them! It is always fun to compare your own
predictions with another. I have listed them under certain
categories, but they could overlap into others as well. Please
have a safe, fun, and Happy New Year!
Iraq- the U.S. led presence will aggressively work to have
the Iraqi Security Forces in place by April. Unfortunately,
the Iraqi Security will be set up by infiltrators to spur
on an Iraqi civil war with civil rights violations and war
atrocities in an attempt to sour the Iraqi population against
it. Elements of WMD’s will surface- “dirty bombs”, lethal
gases, and various “armed” ground to air missiles. Intense
debates about troop withdrawal and oil appropriations will
place a greater wedge within the Legislature.
Bin Laden- Is not dead. He is possibly moving between in Syria,
Afghanistan, Northern Iraq, and Turkey aided by remaining
Taliban rebels. He will be cornered late summer, early fall,
and take his own life.
News Issues and Global and Domestic Terrorism- the trend that
I see is an increase on both. Globally I see at least two
incidences of commercial airliners being struck by ground
to air missile attacks. Two possible areas are Turkey and
South East Asia in the Indonesia area. Airlines are going
to take another financial hit. Domestically, vehicles (cars,
trucks, whatever) will be used to cause accidents on large
and small scale. Large scale being pile-ups and crashing into
every day “soft targets” like gas stations and banks. An increase
in “race baiters” popping up in chat rooms and message boards
to create racial tension. A possible raise in concern over
water and food contamination. And lastly (it will get lighter),
we will be inundated by computer hacking and viruses which
could coincide with increased identity theft.
Weather Events- an even more harsh winter than last year is
in store for the Midwest and Northeast. Many earthquakes,
especially the Pacific Rim. California could register a 7.0
this spring as well as an increase in mudslides.
